What is this, and who is this
person? My name is Joe Mayer, and this is my web page. It was
supposed to be the page for my new band, but that band has thus far not
materialized. Since I already owned the domain name, I figured why not use
it for my own nefarious deeds. And what sort of deeds are those?
I'm a musician, although, as mentioned above, I
haven't played in a band for a while. My old band's web page is still out
there. You can also get to our page on GarageBand,
which has a couple of complete songs. If anyone knows of a band in Oregon's Rogue Valley that is
looking for a bass player/utility infielder, hook me up with them, will
you? Some of my MIDI stuff is
now available here, and I hope to have some new MP3s posted in the next
few months.
I program, mostly in Visual Basic and VBA, but I'm
trying to get better at Java. Again, I hope to post some of my work
around here. Especially the stuff that I think someone might find a
little bit useful.
I take some pictures with my slick new Canon S500
digital camera, but I hesitate to really call myself a photographer.
You can judge for
yourself, if you'd like. I seem to particularly like taking
pictures of cats, clouds, birds, water features (like rivers and oceans),
and flowers. A random sampling is off to the right, and there's plenty more
where that came from...
I write some bad poetry, although I haven't written
much lately. And, yes, again, I hope to post some more of it up here over
the course of the next few months.
I geek around the web quite a bit. I have the
page at Flickr.com
that I listed in the photography note above, plus a page at StumbleUpon.com,
another at 43Things.com,
and a blog on LiveJournal.com. I also have
a Blogger blog here on this site, which
is currently documenting my efforts as a musician.
I enjoy studying history, geography, science,
mathematics, and almost anything else I can get my brain on. Someday,
if I feel real ambitious, I may start writing book reviews and posting them
up here. I'm not really sure when that might happen, though.
When I'm not involved in doing my own
stuff, I work as a computer support type person (übergeek) for a company here
in southern Oregon. As part of my duties, I write a column for the
semi-annual-ish company newsletter. Usually, it's something on a security
related computer issue. You can see my columns in all of their
black-and-white glory here.
