DREAMS AND VISIONS

This song was recorded by West of Arizona on our first CD, Area to Vary, in 1997.  Set to music by yours truly and Jonathan Jordan, with arrangement by the band...

Visions of my past,
    Visions of my many futures
Most of them won't last,
    And many I don't wish to see;
Dreams that steal my sleep,
Ghosts that haunt my waking hours
Visions of the things that
    Set you apart from me.

Dreams and visions
    And unfilled aspirations
Things I've thought of being
    Things I'd like to do
Words of other people
    Ringing hollow in my ears
Worlds of wonder promised me
That are too good to be true.

Dreams that keep my sleep from me
Show me things I don't want to see
Failures in my lifetime,
    Real or just perceived
And in the moments before dawn
Darkness drags me on and on
My mind can't draw the line
    Between what's real and fantasy. . .

Looking at the past
I see the crossroads and the switchbacks
The places I have left the path
    That I had in mind
So many times I've turned
That sometimes it's hard to remember
What it was that I
Started out to find. . .
